Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 provides tools for the creation of dynamic interactive forms which can be distributed as either stand-alone PDF documents or as documents integrated into an Adobe LiveCycle process.
The Form Validation feature in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 can control how Acrobat displays data validation errors in PDF forms.
Configure Form Objects with Differing Validation Properties

Both the Name and the Postcode fields have been set as Required through the Value tab of the Object palette.
Setting Form Level Validation Settings

Clicking the Form Level Validation Settings link at the bottom of the Value tab displays the Form Validation dialog box.
Form Validation Dialog

The Form Validation Dialog has 4 settings whose properties can be set:
-Show Dialog Message
-Color Failed Fields
-Color Mandatory Fields
-Set Focus
Show Dialog Message

The Show Dialog Message options allow the configuration of which messages are displayed the fields do not validate.
Color Failed Fields

The Color Failed Fields options allow the configuration of how fields will appear if their validation fails
Color Mandatory Fields

The Color Mandatory Fields options allows colour settings to be adjusted to highlight mandatory fields that have not been filled-in.
Set Focus

The Set Focus options allows the cursor to be set to appear in the first field that fails to validate.
Testing Validation Settings – Dialog Message

In this example the Name and Postcode fields are mandatory but have not been filled-in.
Based on the Form Validation dialog properties set in the previous screens, by clicking the Submit by Email button and leaving these two fields blank, a message box appears once, indicating that both mandatory fields cannot be left blank.
Testing Settings – Color Mandatory Fields & Set Cursor Focus

Once the email submit has been cancelled both mandatory fields are highlighted in blue and the cursor is placed in the first field that failed the validation (the Name field).
