Document Design

Document design requirements for mobile device documents as well as tablet navigation options that need to be considered when determining folio design.

Creating Documents

Creation of mobile device documents taking into consideration device “chrome” items such as scroll bars and navigational overlays of the devices OS.

Interactivity

This lesson provides an overview of the functionality of interactive overlays in a mobile device article. Describes how the static page information is converted into a file type such as jpg and a slideshow or video overlays that compressed “page”.

Buttons and Hyperlink Overlays

Hyperlinks and buttons used to create navigational interfaces.

Slideshow Overlays

How to use images within a mobile framework to highlight the visual.

Image Sequence Overlays

The power of the Image Sequence function is the ability to progress through a series of images forward or backward “frame” by “frame” to see multiple views as would be seen in a 360 degree view of an object or a compression of time in a time-lapse sequence.

Audio and Video Overlays

Use audio and video content to engage viewers.

Panorama Overlay

Incorporate panorama images that allow the viewer to “look” and “move” in various directions from a vantage
point.

Pan and Zoom Overlays

A variation of the “panoramic cross” is the ability to use a series of stitched images from Adobe Photoshop. Without any additional software, this allows the viewer to “pan” and “zoom” on the image.

Scrollable Frame Overlays

Scrollable frames in Adobe InDesign CS5 or later can include text and graphics.

Web Content Overlays

Provide the ability to access web content within an article whether it be for additional information or the purchase of products and services.

Creating Folios

This lesson now crosses over into the production phase of the DPS Workflow. Here
the students, using the Folio Builder panel, sign-in to the folio panel, create folios and
share and delete folios.

Creating Articles and Layouts

This section deals with creating articles from both “open” and “imported” InDesign
documents. Additional layouts will be added for dual orientation and the folder structure
of documents will be reviewed.

Managing Articles

Once articles have been imported into a folio, additional information can be added to each article regarding “title,” “byline,” “kicker,” and “description” properties. Students will be able to edit and update the folios.

Preview Folios and Articles

This section provides information on previewing folios with the desktop and mobile version of the Adobe Content viewer application.

“Single Edition” folio

The Single Edition model provides small to midsize design studios and freelance designers a way to deliver brochures, catalogs, portfolios, training materials, and books to mobile devices.
