Tidalfire and the founders: A brief, brief history

Tidalfire LogoA new company, given the codename “Hendrix” after the legendary guitarist Jimi (that probably tells you all you need to know about one of the founders, Ted Osuch) came to life on 21st June 2001 as, Tidalfire. The launch party included the great and the good of Edinburgh oh yes, and a fire-eater. With a confident start like that things were always going to go well. And the company has indeed gone from strength to strength and now has a list of household name clients that stretches right across the globe.

We can put the success down to a whole host of things but especially the quality of staff that work and have worked for Tidalfire over the last 9 years. We think it says a lot about the importance we place on relationships, both with our clients and our people, that most of our work comes from repeat business and word of mouth recommendations and that even ex-employees are still ongoing friends.

That’s Tidalfire; now let us tell you a little more about the founders.

Louise Scott: She is the MD of Tidalfire and is responsible for driving the financial and marketing direction of the company.
When she’s not at work Louise is a polar adventurer. (Scott of the Arctic, if you will). Her first trip to Greenland was to take part in the Drambuie Ice golf tournament. Since then she’s returned to the Arctic Circle on many occasions and climbed the highest peaks in the Arctic. (We’re not sure if she’s just been looking for her lost ball).
Louise is also a motivational speaker and was asked to be a judge on the 2009 STV programme “Greatest Scot.”

If you’d like to see the photographic evidence of Louise’s Arctic adventures check out her personal blog at www.osuch.com

Ted Osuch: Ted is responsible for the technical direction of the company. And there can’t be anyone more qualified to do that job. Ted began his career working for Aldus (creators of PageMaker, FreeHand and Persuasion, early pioneer software that led the way for today’s cutting edge software packages).

When Aldus was bought by Adobe Ted took on the challenging new role of Localisation manager which involved customising Adobe software to work with East European languages (Polish, Czech, Russian…) This huge role involved frequent travel to exciting and exotic (if cold) locations. Eventually the desire to go it alone was too strong to ignore and Ted started his own company.

Clearly Ted’s relationship with Adobe was too strong to break and this led to the germ of an idea that, with Louise (another well loved and loyal ex Aldus and Adobe employee), came to life as “Quassia”, no, “Green Ginger”, no, they finally decided on calling their new company a name Ted had come up with, “Tidalfire”.

Now, if you’d like to know more about Ted’s musical tastes and Jimi Hendrix in particular, we suggest you give him a call yourself.
